Boon Tong Kee, Singapore’s renowned chicken rice restaurant since 1983, has to-date established its presence in 7 locations around Singapore. Famous for its silky white sauce chicken, many reviews were centred on its first and main branch at Balestier. However, we do believe that other branches similarly delivered equal or if not slightly better standards as compared to its main store. Hence, we decided to try out satisfy our cravings for chicken rice at its Boon Keng outlet.

Along the row of shophouses just outside Boon Keng MRT station, situates the all-time favourite chicken rice store. We decided to give it a try despite the long waiting line. While queueing, it is evident that Boon Tong Kee’s chicken rice has drawn the attention of both locals and tourists to patronise.

Having tried so many chicken rice stalls ranging from hawkers to restaurants, we still felt that Boon Tong Kee offers the best overall taste for its Chicken Rice ($1) and Signature Boiled Chicken ($15 - Medium). In addition, the sesame oil served with the boiled chicken was so mouth-watering and will definitely make you want to have more together with the fragrant chicken rice.

When it comes to chicken rice, another highlight of Boon Tong Kee will definitely be its chilli sauce. Boon Tong Kee’s in-house chilli sauce were thick and spicy, with a very strong taste of ginger. Although the chilli sauce was more spicy compared to other stalls, we believe that the chilli sauce at Boon Tong Kee is definitely one element that brings out the remarkable tasting experience.

If you think that having chicken rice is not satisfying, Boon Tong Kee do offer side dishes such as Sambal Kang Kong ($8), Salted Fish Bean Sprouts ($8) and French Beans ($10).

It had been more than a wonderful experience at Boon Tong Kee, being served with amazing flavours from the homemade sauce and a bowl of chicken rice, steamed with extravagant aroma. Not forgetting the Signature Boiled Chicken, which has till date maintained its standard. Hence, the overall food quality and service experience will definitely make us want to visit again.
