Aji-ichi - Japanese Food at Kallang Wave by Astons (No GST & Service Charge)

Aji-ichi, located at Kallang Wave, is a sub-brand of Astons offering diners with affordable Japanese cuisine, with no service charge and GST. At Aji-ichi, you can expect to find a wide selection of Japanese delights ranging from sashimi, sushi, donburi, bento, ramen and many other side dishes, starting from $8.90 for mains.

On top of the wallet friendly prices, the ambient is also inviting for casual diners. All rice dishes are served with quality rice from Niigata, Japan. Aji-ichi is renowned for its Nabemono, Japanese-styled hotpot served with Pork or Beef slices.

Aji-ichi - Nabemono

Angus Beef Nabemono ($15.90)

Nabemono, is one of the popular choices among diners at Aji-ichi. This Japanese-styled hotpot was generously filled with ingredients such as mushrooms, lettuce, black fungus, enoki and tofu. Diners can choose between Tonkotsu and Clear broth. Every set of Nabemono is served with a plate of meat and rice.

The Tonkotsu broth was richly dense and had strong aftertaste, making the ingredients extremely flavourful when paired with staples such as ramen and rice. To further appreciate the zeal in preparing the broth, we ordered additional German Pork Collar. The dish totally hit the spot as we went for more than three rounds of refill for the addictive broth which tasted sensational to our taste buds.

Aji-ichi - Terriyaki Chicken Ramen

Terriyaki Chicken Ramen ($9.90)

Served with Tonkotsu Broth with wavy ramen, this ramen comes with a generous serving of thick slices of Terriyaki chicken. The chicken slices were juicy and tender. For those who prefer to taste the original taste of Terriyaki, we recommend you to request to get your Terriyaki Chicken separated.

Other ramen choices include Beef Yakiniku Ramen, Cha Shu Ramen, Vegetable Ramen and Dry Ramen.

Aji-ichi - Chicken Katsu Don

Chicken Katsu Don ($11.90)

For rice-lovers, you can go for the Chicken Katsu Don. Served with breaded chicken with onions and egg, this is definitely a popular selection. At Aji-ichi, be sure to be pampered by the generous serving of meat.

Aji-ichi - Japanese Tartar Chicken

Japanese Tartar Chicken ($3.30 - 3 pieces / $5.90 - 6 pieces)

We enjoyed the boneless chicken which was deeply fried till golden, making it amazingly crispy. The texture of the crisp went really well with fresh Tartar sauce. We wouldn’t mind going for the 6 pieces option as it was the best among the sides which we have ordered.

Other recommended sides dishes include:

Tempura Maki ($2.90)

Served with 3 pieces of Maki filled with breaded prawns which went generally well with its sushi rice. There was still much more texture that the rice could achieve, as it was less grainy and was hardly sticky compared to a typical sushi. It also lacked a tint of vinegar which very much could enhance the fragrance of Japanese rice.

Pork Gyoza ($3.00 - 3 pieces / $5.50 - 6 pieces)

The pork gyoza which comes in 3 pieces, were rather decent with just the right amount of minced pork. It would be much tastier with a little charred on the bottom.

It wasn’t a tough call to patronise such an affordable restaurant with relatively good ambient and large spread of selections. We went out with our stomachs filled and wallets still intact, having spent the minimal for maximum food pleasure. It’s definitely worth to come again, perhaps, for other dishes which were equally appetizing.
