Living up to its name, Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice has been around for more than 40 years. Its signature dishes include Claypot Rice, San Lao Bee Hoon and Curry Fish Head. Apart from its signature dish - Claypot Rice, Sembawang Traditional Claypot Rice also serves dishes ranging from noodles, stir-fry vegetables and meat, just like what you can find at a typical zichar store.

Be greeted by the long waiting line as you approached the store, accompanied by the charred or wok-hey aroma from the claypot rice. The aroma is definitely going to make you hungrier.

What to order?

1. Signature Claypot Rice (Small - $8.80, Medium - $13.80, Large - $19.80)

Waiting time: 30 – 45 mins

Be sure to find all the main ingredients of Claypot Rice, which include Lap Cheong, Chicken, Vegetables, Salted Egg. Unlike typical claypots the smokiness at every spoonful is consistent. The best part was still the charred bits right at the bottom of the pot, which added a crunch to the warm steamy rice.

Dining in a family of 4, we ordered the Large Claypot Rice, however, the portion was barely enough to feed 3.

Be prepared to wait for at least 45 minutes, for your Claypot Rice to be served. Despite its long waiting time, the restaurant do offer diners to make a reservations before heading down so that you can skip the lines and reduce the waiting time to get your hands on your Claypot Rice.

2. San Lao Bee Hoon (Small - $5.80, Big - $9.80)

San Lao Bee Hoon is served in a unique style of presentation – crispy at the top and soft in the inside. Consisting of chicken, vegetables, egg and prawns, this bee hoon delight is another highly recommended dish at this store.

At least, the waiting time for San Lao Bee Hoon was barely less than 10 minutes, which you could treat as your appetiser while waiting for the Claypot Rice to arrive.

Conclusion

The Signature Claypot Rice does live up to expectations. As compared to other Claypot Rice stores we have tried, it does not leave a memorable taste that will make you want to specially make a trip down here. Also, the waiting time in the warm environment will make you think twice before coming back for the next visit.
